How do juries really get chosen? In this episode, our dynamic duo takes on the world of jury exclusion, discussing how and why some jurors are taken out of a jury pool and excused for cause and how others are removed for no good reason at all. In particular, we take a look at the little known use of Batson Challenges during jury questioning, through which an attorney can challenge the exclusion of a jury member. These challenges go to the heart of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, because they claim that a jury member is being excluded only on the basis of discrimination.
Join our legal team for the real world application of when and how to make a Batson challenge and what it actually looks like in a courtroom. Whether you are a seasoned attorney, a new attorney, a law student, or just someone interested in court and the legal system, this is a fun and interesting discussion of a little known, but exciting topic. Hosted by Virginia Tehrani, Esq., and Chelsey Rogers of Tehrani Law, LLC.

Do you know what you can and can't say in court? Do you ever wonder why you can say some things in court but not others? Are you angry when you hear details in big criminal cases in the news, but you find out that the jury never heard those same details? In this episode, find out why some evidence gets heard by a jury and some evidence doesn't. We provide a general overview of what information comes into court and what information a judge will keep out in a fun and conversational way. Virginia tells multiple personal stories about the murder cases she tried as a prosecutor, how she learned the rules of evidence, and what happened with DNA evidence in one of her biggest jury trials.
Whether you are a law student looking for a better understanding of the law, a new lawyer, or a non-lawyer looking for something interesting and out of the ordinary, join hosts Virginia Tehrani, Esq., and law student Chelsey Rogers, of Tehrani Law, LLC, to find out more about the basics of the rules of evidence in a courtroom.

If you have to go to court, where do you go? In this episode covering venue and jurisdiction, our dynamic duo talk about everything you never knew about going to court - where do you go, what is the court called, and why is there a difference in who goes to which court? Find out where criminal cases are heard versus civil cases, what the differences are between lower and upper courts (district and circuit courts), why you would be in state versus federal court, and in which city or state your court case would be located.
Also find out how Johnny Depp's case ended up in Fairfax County, Virginia, instead of California! Whether you are a law student looking for a better understanding of the law, a new lawyer, or a non-lawyer looking for something interesting and out of the ordinary, join hosts Virginia Tehrani, Esq., and law student Chelsey Rogers, of Tehrani Law, LLC, to find out more about the world of "venue" and "jurisdiction."
